In the search for oneââ¬â¢s true self, each person reacts differently. Each woman encountered, Antigone, Miss Emily, Mrs. Mallard, and Nora attempt to discover their true self despite the roles in which both the men in their lives, as well as society has determined for them. Rather than allowing either men or society to determine who they were as women, each woman acted in their own ways and decided that they did not want to conform to the person in which someone else had determined for them. In Antigone, Antigone strived to discover her true self by staying true to her beliefs and doing what she knew to be right. During this time, women played an extremely diminutive role in Greek society. After the death of Antigoneââ¬â¢s brother, King Creon forbade anyone to burry his body.
