A law student has to surmount the test of patience, endurance, and wit and has to pass the dreadful and grueling bar exam before he finally becomes a full-fledged lawyer. Most of all,lawyering is a complicated profession because it entails life, liberty and property of the party involved.In society, legal profession has thousands of students and their population has been steadily increasing for the past years. The profession appears very inviting because it promises something of great value than any profession in the society. Today, thousands of lawyers are loitering in the hall of justice. They appear confident and elegant with their clean and well- pressed coats. Their suitcases, which they carry with them most of the time, make them even more respectable and well off. Their offices also occupy a considerable area in the city.Meanwhile, in the present era, certain rules and laws govern human acts. Any act done in violation of that law or freedom constitutes a crime punishable by the said laws. The orderly means of implementing the laws and orderly applications of the punishment requires the service of the lawyer, among others. However, with the constant increase of lawyer’s population there is a doubt whether all the cases will be enough for them to handle. Some are even chasing potential clients such as victims of accidents, those suffering a disease due to an intake of a medicine or use of products, or even those insured, just to have clients. The lawyer in the story is the narrator himself, telling the story of his daily activities in his office and his daily discourse with his staff. In the story, it is implied that the narrator is an expert and had a significant experience in law by stating that he is an elderly man. The narrator had four staff members, namely, Turkey, Nippers, Ginger Nut, and Bartleby. They all have different personalities and mood but he likes them all for a variety of reasons. Turkey is an old man who is industrious in the morning but becomes idle in the afternoon. On the other hand, Nippers is Turkey’s opposite for he is idle in the morning but industrious and calm in the afternoon.   Ginger Nut is a law student who works in the lawyer’s office as a cleaner and sweeper while Bartbery is the lawyer’s scrivener. By definition, a scrivener is a writer or copyist. Moreover, based on Melville’s story, scriveners are part of the machinery of modern industry and commerce, educated to do tedious work. During the law yer’s daily routine, he or she lawyer usually sits with his scriveners and Turkey and Nippers to examine the papers they have prepared. When the lawyer called Bartbery to join with them, the latter replied â€Å"I prefer not to.† This statement was always the answer of Bartbery every time the lawyer has something to ask him. Time came when the lawyer fired and abandoned Bartbery because of the latter’s inaction and constant idleness. Bartbery was forcibly brought to a place where he was taken cared of but the lawyer continued to give support to Bartbery and even offered him other jobs other than a scrivener. However, Bartbery preferred not to and, one day, he died.The story left a moral lesson regarding the duty of the lawyer in the society. Notably, a lawyer’s duty is also to save a person convicted of a crime from further punishment if the accused has a reasonable defense and when the crime was really not executed by the accused. From the story it can b e assumed that the lawyer was not able to save scrivener from the discrimination of the society considering that a scrivener is no longer a labor for man but for a machine. Nevertheless, in the story, the lawyer showed concern by being considerate and being generous to Bartbery.In addition, the narrator presented a lawyer who revolved his life on money. According to the story, in the lawyer’s statement,â€Å"I am one of those unambitious lawyers who never addresses a jury, or in any way draws down public applause; but in the cool tranquility of a snug retreat, do a snug business among rich men’s bonds and mortgages and title- deedsIn other words, he stated that he is not a typical lawyer who simply shows up in court to represent or defend a client. Rather, he also earns his fortune through bonds, mortgages, and title deeds of rich men. He is also a lawyer who advocates on â€Å"the easiest way of life is the best,† which means he does not need to work like typi cal lawyers to earn money and it is also an understatement that his priorities are his life’s pleasure and security.   From the story, it can also be inferred that Bartbery is a victim of the social cycle wherein the less privileged are not given much attention. Furthermore, the narrator presented himself as an example of lawyer who works for money.Lawyer to represent the poorIn the society where there are thousands of lawyers, it can be hard to determine whether they work for money, power or for principle. However, it is possible that there are fewer lawyers who work for principle. In the story, Man the Reformer, the author, Ralph Waldo Emerson appeals to the society’s practice of discriminating against the poor people and the disregard for the existence of God. The story also said that justice can not be acquired without divine intervention. Moreover, in his work, Emerson stated:â€Å"The Americans have many virtues but have not Faith and Hope†¦The Americans have no faith. They rely on the power of a dollar; they are deaf to sentiment. They think you may talk the north wind down as easily as raise society; and no class more faithless than the scholars or intellectual men†.He also further stated† â€Å"The state must consider the poor man, and all voices must speak for him. Every child that is born must have a just chance for his bread. Let the amelioration in our laws of property proceed from the concessions of the rich, not from the grasping of the poor†. In relation to legal profession, the author has considered a normal practice in legal profession in which lawyers only represent those who have money while the poor is less represented. Due to this, justice is out-of-reach because poor people cannot afford the fees and cannot be even represented freely as their case are not among the lawyer’s priorities.Lawyer to represent principleIn the reading, Life Without Principle, which was written by Henry David Thore au, the author criticized the norms of the society wherein people exist only to work and work   because they are only thinking of how much money they could earn. There is no Sabbath. It would be glorious to see mankind at leisure for once. He insisted that the aim of a worker is not to find big profit but to find job that he would enjoy and at the same time fulfill his purpose in the society. According to the story:  Ã‚   â€Å"The aim of the laborer should be, not to get his living, to get â€Å"a good job,† but to perform well in a certain work; and even in a pec uniary sense, it would be economy for town to pay its laborers so well that they would not feel that they were working for low ends, as for a livelihood merely, but for scientific, and even moral ends;†In relation, the author of the story further commented on the usual practice in courtroom;â€Å"I wondered if, when they got home, they were as careful to wash their ears as before their hands and faces. It has seemed to me, that the auditors and the witnesses, the jury and the counsel, the judge and the criminal at the bar, if I may presume him guilty before he is convicted—were all equally criminal, and a thunderbolt might be expected to descend and consume them all together.†In all the reading regarding the legal profession, it seems that lawyers, who are considered the intellectuals of the society, are very busy with their job not to help but to seek fortunes. It can be deduced that they are in the legal profession for money and for power. It is their means of getting rich by dealing with the rich. It has been said that lawyers are agents of justice because they are deemed to help in establishing the truth. Search for justice is such a delicate and complicated thing that a simple mistake can kill an innocent man and can free a real criminal. Thus, lawyers must perform their jobs with faith and act based on moral grounds. Moreover, the justice system shall not exclude those who are poor who cannot afford the service of an intelligent and powerful lawyer. Justice should always be served to the poor if they are deemed to have it.Furthermore, in the justice system, there are a number of lawyers who work for principle. They execute their job according to their oath and they serve the poor with no strings attached. However, these kinds of lawyers are not given much opportunity by the government. In modern English, c is a substitute letter, a stand-in symbol for two English sounds that have distinctive letters to represent them. These sounds are /k/ and /s/, as in cat and cent. C wasn’t always a mere substitute for the letters k and s. In Old English, c was the only symbol for the sound /k/. A note in the OED explains what happened: When the Roman alphabet was introduced into Britain, C had only the sound /k/ ; and this value of the letter has been retained by all the insular Celts: in Welsh, Irish, Gaelic, C, c, is still only = /k/ . The Old English or ‘Anglo-Saxon’ writing was learned from the Celts, apparently of Ireland; hence C, c, in Old English, was also originally = /k/ : the words kin, break, broken, thick, seek, were in Old English written cyn, brecan, brocen, à ¾icc, sà ©oc. In OE, as in Modern English, the letter s represented the sounds /s/ and /z/. Before the end of the OE period, c became palatalized before e and i. Meanwhile, changes were going on in French spelling and pronunciation. Among other things, French adopted the letter k to represent the sound /k/ in some words. The Norman Conquest of England in 1066 spelled more than political disaster. The Norman scribes who ousted their English counterparts were accustomed to Latin and French spelling conventions. When the Normans invaded England, English spelling went from consistent to what it is today. After the Conquest, c kept the /k/ sound in some English words like candle, cliff, corn, and crop, but in others, the sound /k/ was spelled with the new letter k, as in king, break, and seek. Rule: In modern English, when the letter c occurs before the letters i, e, or y, it represents its â€Å"soft† sound: /s/. Also there is a problem with the time of dubbing and the reproduction of the series, as well as some similarities and differences between the comic and anime. Manga is the word that Japanese from nowadays call comics or cartoon. In the eighteenth century drawings designated Japanese painter Hokusai, mixing images and text, then continued to use this word to other works, more or less fulfilling this requirement. However, the real start of the Manga as it is known today, came in 1947 with Osamu Tezuka, a broken doctor that copied the Disney style, creating a history of robots that became famous quickly, and in less than five years, and had created more than five new series, including the most famous and is known Tatsuwan Atom (Astro Boy), his most famous creation. However for the Japanese â€Å"Animeâ€Å"cartoon it refers to any animation, in the West this word is to refer to the cartoon that originated in Japan. Harem, Beautiful women are after the same man. Chibi, in Japanese means small, this anime stands out in less than 8 years old. People who watch Anime and have an extensive knowledge of this are called Otakus, one of the adopted terms of Japanese culture. The word Otaku is the term used by the Japanese to refer to any kind of hobby of collecting something, but this term has been a feature of Manga fans and anime, for Westerners, with the brief distinction of thought, what Otaku in Japan is an insecure, a refugee in the lonely world, where society is very separate from them, and only understand those who collect the same. The American-style constitution of the second Republic (1979-1983) was designed for Nigerians type of democracy where natural affairs rather than state are promoted to avoid the pattern of British parliamentary system where the winner-takes-all pattern. The parties in America conform to the Constitution due to their disciplinary disposition. In Nigeria, political parties were following the British style of politics, where â€Å"distribution of revenues among the politician and their clients at national, state and local levels†, are the order of the day (Shehu, et al; 1999:34). Use of a Literary Device in “Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer’s Day”

William Shakespeare’s sonnet â€Å"Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day† is a fourteen line poem that contains three quatrains followed by a couplet. The poem is also known as Sonnet 18, and is a beautiful poem describing just that, a summer’s day. If one wishes to be technical, Shakespeare does more than describe a summer’s day, he is comparing an individual to a summer’s day. Shakespeare uses the literary devices imagery and diction throughout the poem. Imagery is the one device that stands out the most due to Shakespeare’s intricate way of describing the summer day with such detail that the reader feels like they are there. Diction is an important literary device which I will focus on, because Shakespeare switches back and forth between abstract and concrete diction. Shakespeare used imagery to its fullest in this poem. Using the phrases summer’s day, buds of May, heaven shines, and so on†¦ It all sounds so beautiful and the reader is able to picture all of these images as it brings a smile to the readers’ lips. While reading the poem, the gender of the person to whom Shakespeare is comparing to a summer’s day is left unknown and can easily be confused with that of a woman, although the poem gives no indication of this relationship being a romantic one. The line that strikes me as being the most beautiful is â€Å"But thy eternal summer shall not fade† (Shakespeare 76). I as the reader can just imagine a summer that never ends, and the sound of that is pleasing to the mind. Thus this is the best example of how Shakespeare used imagery in this sonnet. One that is a bit more difficult to understand is Shakespeare’s use of diction throughout the poem. Just like the rest of Shakespeare’s work, in this poem he primarily uses formal form of speech with words such as thou, thy, shall, nor. This choice of words was common when the poem was written back in 1609, but no longer is for the readers of this day and age, which makes Shakespeare’s choice of diction easily misunderstood. In this poem, Shakespeare uses concrete and abstract diction interchangeably. Concrete language can be considered something specific or definite such as objects you can picture with your five senses such as walking, cold, lawn mower, etc†¦ Shakespeare uses this type of diction scarcely throughout the poem with the following words: buds, hot, shines, men, breathe, and eyes. Most poets do not use abstract or concrete diction uniformly (Deblanco and Cheuse 75). Shakespeare had to move back and forth between dictions in order to make the poem sound. Abstract diction is more general, because it refers to terms that you cannot touch, see, smell, feel or taste. Examples of abstract diction are love, freedom, sexism, morale, etc†¦ Shakespeare uses abstract diction much more freely throughout the poem, perhaps because abstract diction is much easier to use for his need to achieve imagery. He uses the phrases â€Å"Thou art more lovely and more temperate† (Shakespeare 76), lovely being the abstract term in this phrase. Same concept applies to the phrase â€Å"But thy eternal summer shall not fade†(Shakespeare 76), eternal is not something you can sense with any of your five senses. Abstract words can also vary from person to person, because a word be interpreted differently varying on the person. In sum, throughout the entirety of the poem â€Å"Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer’s Day† by William Shakespeare, he uses concrete and abstract interchangeably in order to achieve a perfect balance and to incorporate imagery for the reader to visualize his words. The use of concrete and abstract diction brought Shakespeare’s poem to life, thus making the reading a pleasant experience for the reader.

Chapter 1 The Problem and its Background Introduction The term RFID refers to Radio Frequency Identification, a technology which uses radio waves to automatically identify items or people. Most commonly this involves the use of an RFID tag and a reader device. In general terms, Radio Frequency Identification systems consist of an RFID tag (typically many tags) and an interrogator or reader. The interrogator emits a field of electromagnetic waves from an antenna, which are absorbed by the tag. The absorbed energy is used to power the tag’s microchip and a signal that includes the tag identification number is sent back to the interrogator.The use of a wireless non-contact system that uses radio frequency  electromagnetic fields  to transfer data from a tag attached to an object, for the purposes of automatic identification and tracking. Some tags require no battery and are powered and read at short ranges via magnetic fields (electromagnetic induction). Backround of the Stud y Tanauan Institute has already been using the Library System. Since the institution is already using such technology, these will be the first time for the institution to use Radio Frequency Identification.The researchers thought of maximizing its use by creating a system that will track the students who borrowed books, which will be having RFID stickers for monitoring purposes, in the library. Currently, the school’s library is using the â€Å"Library System† in monitoring the books, which has a number of limitations. It is not capable of generating reports that can determine the books that are mostly borrowed which can help them decide on the number of a particular book they will be purchasing in the future. It is also using Microsoft Visual Basic for the system’s database which can only store very limited information.On the other hand, the system that the library is using in recording the attendance of the users cannot help them in identifying the library use rs of the month. The librarians need to manually count the number of times each student had logged in the system. Lastly, they have also no means of reminding the library users regarding their borrowed book Statement of the Problem Not capable of generating reports that can determine the books that are mostly borrowed. Objectives of the StudyGenerally, the researchers aim to design and develop a system that would enhance the use of the current Library System with the help of RFID in the said Institute. Specifically, the study aims to: Design and develop a system that will generate reports to determine the trend in book borrowing Use MySQL for the system’s database Determine the library users of the month in just a click of a button Remind the students and faculty members regarding their borrowed books Test and evaluate the sy stem’s accuracy and reliability Scope and Delimitation There would be some limitations to the project that should be taken into consideration.This study limits its coverage to the students of the Tanauan Institute only. It will be conducted for two semesters which consists of 10 months. Two low frequency ACR122U Smart Card Readers will be used for the system: one for the monitoring of books and the other one for the recording of the attendance. The system will be written in Microsoft Visual Basic 2010. The database that will be incorporated with such is Microsoft My SQL. It will execute only in platforms running Windows Operating System. The applications of the system will only cover the monitoring of books and tracking of the borrowers.Other unavoidable circumstances, such as power interruptions and speed of access, and other more complex areas of RFID Technology, such as securing the data, are no longer part of the study. Conceptual Framework For the researchers to be able to come up with a Radio Frequency Identification Reloading System, they will need very flexible and versatile knowledge in using the VB. They will also be needing materials such as ACS Readers, tags which should be compatible with the reader and a desktop running Windows operating system.The related foreign and local studies and literature would also be of big aid to them because of the given information and problems with solutions of these materials. With all the knowledge, the materials to be used and the related resources, the researchers will need to carefully plan the whole study which is going to be the foundation of their research as a whole, gather and analyze data before they design and code the system. Chapter 2 Related Literature and Studies A. Related Literature Foreign LiteratureHolloway (June 2006), Microsoft EMEA Manufacturing Industry Solutions Architect, wrote a white paper which explained the components of a basic RFID system and how it works. According to him, an RFID system is composed of three important pieces of equipment such as: (1) a small radio device called a tag, or the transponder, which contains the data, (2) the reader, or the interrogator, that transmits and collects data to be downloaded from and uploaded to the tag, and (3) the host computer installed with an RFID software to process the data into valuable information.Daniel (2004) summarizes the operation in a basic RFID system as discussed below: First, the tag will enter the RF field of the Reader then, the RF signal will power the Tag that will transmit the ID with other data which, on the other hand, will be sent to the computer by the Reader. Soldatos (2010) formulated a study entitled Rich Client Application for RFID EPCIS Repository wherein he created software which intended to provide a UML-like graphical representation of the business locations, and read points of an enterprise with a more user friendly RFID-based software system.Dhanalakshmi and Mamatha (n. d. ) wrote a paper wherein they discussed the proj ect that they created entitled â€Å"RFID Based Library Management System† which is very similar to the study being conducted by the proponents. In their study’s conclusion, they have indicated and proven that RFID in the library speeds up its transactions such as book borrowing, returning, searching thus enables staff to do more of its responsibilities. Mutigwe and Aghdasi (n. d. also conducted a study entitled â€Å"Research Trends in RFID Technology† wherein they have given attention at continuing research activities in the field of RFID and talked about the possible major burdens that RFID Technology is facing today such as privacy, high costs, and social and legal concerns. Local Literature Garcia (2009) made a study, â€Å"Student Recognition Using Radio Frequency Identification for Tarlac State University†, which was undertaken to develop a system that would support and improve the current way of identifying students at Tarlac State University.The system is capable of importing excel files to update student records. Through the images and the information displayed by the system, security officers find it easy to identify the students entering the school campus. Reports can be generated for administration and filing purposes. The concern of security was also addressed because the system can control users and produce integral records. Similar to the study of the proponents, the system that they will create can also generate reports for monitoring and inventory purposes.Another study which also focused on the record keeping of students who enter and exit the school premises is the â€Å"Design of RFID Interface System: A Prototype† conducted by Engr. Dellosa (2007). He designed a circuitry capable of indicating the arrival and departure of the students in such a way that the students can also be notified. He also developed software capable of capturing and recording the student’s names together with their time of a rrival and departure within the school premises. B. Related Studies Foreign StudiesA study of Botterman and Oranje (May 2009) entitled â€Å"Study on The Requirements and Options For RFID Application in Healthcare† proved that RFID Technology is versatile and can also bring improvements in the field of healthcare. It also proved that the speed of access and speed of processing of transactions, the inventory of equipment, and the monitoring of the patience and employees can be improved by RFID. Lastly, Zherdev (2011) performed a study, â€Å"Storing and Reading Sensor Data from Battery Assisted Passive RFID†, which dealt with tags of battery assisted passive-type and ISO 18000-6C standard.His study evaluated and improved a system designed to transmit information about the bearings status of railway wagons. It is related to this study being conducted by the proponents since they will also be using the passive type of RFID tags. He reasoned out the needs for such advancement which made the proponents more eager in pursuing this study.Local Studies Studies were not only done in other countries but also in the Philippines as well. Filipinos also hunger for knowledge and improvements in the field of Technology. One of the pioneers in using RFID Technology to make its transactions faster and more efficient is the Mapua Institute of Technology with its Cardinal Plus Model which made many transactions convenient ever since it was introduced to the Institute such as securing student identification upon entering the campus and online grade access of students.This study is somehow related because both implementation targets are in universities. A study conducted by Balbacal (2005) entitled â€Å"Automated Bus Fare System† is related to the system that th e researchers is planning to create. In Balbacal’s system, she used reloadable cards which used barcodes in riding a bus and paying for the fare. The amount to be reloaded on a card depends on the user’s capability to pay. However, Aquino et. al’s (October 2009) â€Å"Automation of the Movie TheaterCharging Procedures Through the Use of RFID† proved that RFID Technology can also improve the field of entertainment. Their system was able to eliminate queuing problems & improve charging operations of the system implied on improvement in the efficiency, reliability & accuracy of the operation. Even though the field of implementations of their study and the researchers’ are not the same, the purposes of both are identical. The researchers want to eliminate the redundancy in recording the attendance of the students which the existing system is not capable of.In Villame’s (2010) research entitled â€Å"Carrier Suppression Locked Loop Mechanism for UHF RFID Readers†, he made an improvement on the front-end architecture of UHF RFID readers to address the problem of having the performance of the reader limited as the active components in the receiver become saturated due to having the readers being exposed to strong carrier leakage signals because of the antenna reflections and limited isolation of circulators and directional couplers.This would be of great help but the researchers indicated that other complex aspects of RFID such as isolation of signals will not be covered by this study. Chapter 3 Methodology Research Design In every study, the method of research to be used is very important. Since this institution is already using RFID Technology in monitoring the attendance of its students, the researchers attempted to resolve such issues by creating an RFID-Based Library Management System using Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 with the students and the librarians as the target beneficiaries in mind.Modified waterfall was the research model used by the researchers which helped them in the distribution of the tas ks they need to accomplish.
